This script has its root in the Arabic noun “ruq’a” which literally means a patch or piece of cloth and this script also has a rather interesting history as well as a certain charm.

Riq’a script has evolved from the Naskh and Thuluth scripts. Its name of Riq’a, was taken from the fact that it was written on pieces of paper that were normally used in presenting petitions to the royalty. Therefore, with the flow of time, the Riq’a script emerged in several directions and acquired certain characteristics that set it apart from the previous scripts.
