Dewani Script was greatly spread by the skilled calligraphist Ibrahim Munif in the second half of the 15th century from the Persian Ta’liq. Dewani was most prestigious in the 17th century, especially because of the famous calligrapher Shala Pasha.

Similar to Riq’a, Dewani also evolved into a standard script for writing in the Ottoman chancellery. Dewani is extremely flowing and very systematic. Its letters are undotted and blended in an unconventional manner. It does not use any vowel marks.
