1666492665737.png This is a page from the Blue Quran, surah 30, verses 28-32. Although its point of origin is still heavily debated, it is generally accepted that it was written in either Kairouan, Tunisia or Cordoba, Spain between the years 850 and 950 AD (230 - 340 Hijri). It was written in Kufic script, without any vowel markings. Unusual for other written Qurans at the time, it had 15 lines of text per page and relatively small spaces between words. It was written on parchment made from sheep skin dyed indigo, and its gold writing is gold leaf applied over an adhesive, although it is not known exactly what type it was. Based on the size of the manuscript, it is estimated that there were at least 150 sheep used for the parchment. Different scholars have proposed different times it was written, but some suggestions are during the Umayyad Caliphate, the Abbasid Caliphate, and the Fatimid Caliphate. It is one of the most famous works of Islamic calligraphy.
